What are StackDNS and StackCP?
StackDNS is the name of a set of nameservers: ns1.stackdns.com, ns2.stackdns.com, ns3.stackdns.com and ns4.stackdns.com. They tell the internet where a website and its email live. Many web designers and hosting companies use them for their customers. StackCP is the control panel that often goes with them, and StackMail is the email service.
How do I know if my domain uses StackDNS?
Look at your domain’s nameservers at your registrar, or ask whoever manages your domain. If you see ns1.stackdns.com to ns4.stackdns.com, your domain uses StackDNS. That means your website and email may well be on the same servers as ours, but we don’t have permission or a login yet.
Is stackdns.com a website?
No. stackdns.com is the name behind the four nameservers. It doesn’t have a website of its own, so there is nothing to log in to there.
Does using StackDNS mean Stack Hosting looks after my website?
Not by itself. The company or person who set up your website holds its login. If you can’t reach them, you can give us permission to look after your website, email and domain for you.
What do I do next?
- Can’t log in? Read I can’t log in to my hosting account.
- Can’t reach whoever set it up? Ask us to look after your domain.
- Want to point a domain at us? See how to change nameservers. If your domain already uses these nameservers and you can’t log in, don’t change them.
