I can’t log in to my hosting account

A hosting login belongs to whoever set up your hosting, so it only works at the address and with the email they gave you. Try “Forgotten your details?” with the email address on the account. If you never had a login, or can’t reach the person who set it up, you can give us permission to look after your website, email and domain.

Try these first

  1. Use the login address you were given. A new login created somewhere else starts as an empty account and isn’t linked to your website.
  2. Choose “Forgotten your details?” and use the email address the account was set up with. Check spam.
  3. Check you aren’t locked out after several wrong attempts, and wait before trying again.
  4. Check your domain’s nameservers. If they are ns1 to ns4.stackdns.com, your website may well be on the same servers as ours, but we don’t have permission or a login yet.

I created a login and my account is empty

That is normal. A new login is a fresh account. It isn’t connected to the account where your website, email and domain already are.

I can’t reach the person who set it up

Fill in our short form with your domain name and your details, then sign to give us permission. Your website and email stay live while we sort it out, and usually no DNS changes are needed.

Frequently asked questions

Why can’t I log in to StackCP?

Common reasons are the wrong login address, the wrong email, a password that needs resetting, or a login that was never linked to your website. Use “Forgotten your details?”, or ask whoever set up your hosting.

I created a StackCP login and it’s empty. Why?

A new login is a fresh account. It isn’t linked to the account where your website, email and domain already are.

Can Stack Hosting reset my password?

Only for accounts we manage. For anything else we need the permission of the domain’s owner, or someone allowed to act for them, before we can help.

Will my website go offline while this is sorted out?

We don’t switch anything off. Your website and email stay live while we sort things out, and usually no DNS changes are needed.
