How to add your Stack Hosting email to Airmail (Mac)
Add your Stack Hosting email (Stack Mail) to Airmail on Mac using IMAP. Airmail does not auto-detect stackmail.com, so choose Generic IMAP and enter the servers below. Incoming authentication must be PLAIN — if it is set to NONE, Airmail reports “settings not valid” even when the mailbox is working.
Airmail is a Mac and iPhone app (Mac App Store / App Store). It is not available on Windows. On a PC use New Outlook, classic Outlook, Thunderbird or Windows Mail.
1. Install Airmail
- On your Mac, open the App Store.
- Search for Airmail (by Bloop) and click Get / Install.
- Open Airmail from Applications or Spotlight.
2. Add a Generic IMAP account
- First launch: Airmail opens Add your email account.
- If you already have an account: Airmail → Settings (or Preferences) → Accounts → add account.
- Choose Generic IMAP (not Gmail, iCloud, Yahoo or Office 365).
- Enter your full name and your full Stack Hosting email address, then continue to the User tab.
3. Incoming IMAP and sending SMTP
On the User tab, fill in both sections. Username is always the full email address (not just the part before @).
Mail server settings
Use these details when the app asks for server settings. Username is always your full email address.
Incoming IMAP
- Incoming IMAP Server: imap.stackmail.com
- Port: 993
- Security: SSL
- User: your full email address
- Authentication: PLAIN (not NONE)
- Password: your mailbox password
Sending SMTP
- Sending SMTP Server: smtp.stackmail.com
- Port: 465
- Security: SSL
- Turn Authentication on
- Authentication method: PLAIN
- User and Password: the same full address and mailbox password
Incoming authentication must be PLAIN. If Incoming IMAP authentication is NONE, Airmail’s Test IMAP fails with “settings not valid”. Leave Allow invalid certificate unchecked.
4. Test and save
- Click Test IMAP, then Test SMTP.
- When both succeed, click Save.
- Send a test message and confirm it appears in Sent.
Done. Your Stack Hosting mailbox should now sync in Airmail.
Airmail on iPhone
Install Airmail from the App Store, add an IMAP account, and use the same imap.stackmail.com / smtp.stackmail.com details. Username is still the full email address; incoming authentication must not be left as none.
Troubleshooting
- “Settings not valid”: set Incoming IMAP authentication to PLAIN, ports 993 and 465, security SSL.
- Password rejected: use the full email address and the mailbox password, not a forwarding alias.
- Full server list: IMAP and SMTP settings.
